Callan Oki is a public defense attorney dedicated to advocating for system-impacted individuals and advancing reform within the criminal legal system. Born and raised in Seattle, Callan was influenced by a family legacy of service and resilience—particularly the wrongful incarceration of her Japanese-American grandparents during WWII. Her passion for criminal legal reform ignited during her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University, where she participated in a unique course inside the Washington DC Jail and forged lasting connections with individuals convicted as juveniles who were serving decades-long or life sentences. Callan earned her juris doctorate from Seattle University School of Law in 2023.
Callan now represents hundreds of clients facing misdemeanor charges in King County courts, where she works to ensure clients are treated fairly regardless of their backgrounds. She also serves as Secretary on the boards of The Oki Foundation and Breaking Boundaries Foundation, which are both committed to youth empowerment and charitable giving.
With deep ties to innocence advocacy and a firm belief in the power of exoneration to expose systemic failings, Callan brings her legal experience and lived perspective to support WashIP’s mission of pursuing justice for the wrongfully convicted.
