Karen A.B. Hernandez joined the Washington Innocence Project as a Staff Attorney in 2021. Karen has extensive experience as a criminal and civil litigator, having served as a public defender and as a private defense attorney. Her civil litigation experience spans plaintiff’s and defense work in Washington State Superior Courts, Federal District Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley and a Juris Doctorate from Seattle University School of Law. Her practice is guided by diligence, compassion, mutual respect, curiosity, the excitement of learning, and the need for a more equitable legal system and world.
